Over the last couple of decades, CD has replaced the traditional video tapes. Earlier there were VCRs and VCPs where people used to get video tapes from video library and see the movie. This was replaced by CD and CD player. There was more clarity in the picture. Then DVDs were invested which again made the picture clearer than CD. Now, a new concept has come into the market- Blu ray disc and Blu ray players. To understand the difference between Blu ray players and a DVD, we need to understand the basic technology behind these two.

A Blu ray players has a Blu colored laser to read the data from the disc. It has a shorter wavelength from a DVD player and hence can concentrate on small area. This enables a huge data to be stored on a Blu ray disc as against the normal DVD player which uses red color laser which has a longer wavelength and hence comparatively lesser data can be stored on a DVD. A Blu ray disc can store about six times the data stored on a normal DVD.

Further, due to the high storage capacity, a Blu color disc can store pictures at high resolution which is not possible with DVD. When connected with a display device, the Blu ray player sends the data at a much higher rate that DVD, thus resulting in a very clear resolution. One can watch a movie in 1080p high definition with an amazing sound which gives the viewer a truly wonderful experience.

Also, off late the prices have also started to come down. When launched the prices were a bit high than the DVD players which made people avoid it. But later on the prices were reduced. An amazing technology with affordable prices has resulted in making Blu ray player popular.
